Dear FRIENDS of Vernon Parish Community Orchestra,

The fall semester of VPCO closed triumphantly having completed five concerts for communities Jasper, Texas; Merryville, Louisiana; and Leesville, Louisiana. Assistant Conductor Dr. Karen Gordy, directed the string musicians in the performances.  Ron Yule composed and arranged the repertoire and incorporated the technology of computer generated music writing.

The orchestra thanks St Michael’s Catholic Church, Holly Grove United Methodist Church and The Vernon Parish Library for providing the sites for the performances.  Thanks to Jack and Debbie Causey for a wonderful reception following the December  concert which featured violin soloist, Moriah Michler; trumpeter, Maria Hudson; the ensemble, “Once Upon a Time,” and the Serenade Orchestra, a preparatory Orchestra. We continue to thank our patron, Mayor Robert Rose and the  Booker-Lewis House for their facilities for our board meetings site.

We are happy to welcome new members violinists  Mary Shebs and Alyssa Fisher from Fort Polk.   Andrew Fisher, Jeremy Douglas, Cherith Michler, Mary Ann Carlson, and Andrew Powell are well on their way to joining the cello section of the VPCO.  Eventually, we project having twenty-six or more strings in the orchestra for spring semester which will combine the efforts of strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion under the direction of maestro Michael Bodine.

We hope that you will look toward the spring concert to be announced in March.  It likely will be held at the Leesville High School Auditorium.  Your presence encourages   us  to realize that our weekly time spent in rehearsals is appreciated.  It is a large auditorium to fill.  KJAE radio station and KVVP radio have been very helpful in advertising the dates. We hope you will attend and bring some friends.  The concerts are generally free because your contributions are, thankfully, generous.

The treasurer of the FRIENDS of the Vernon Parish Community Orchestra, Mrs. Nell Wright, requests that monies contributed each year please be mailed to her in September to be credited for that current year to help bookkeeping.  Her address is 143 Dogwood Drive Anacoco, LA. 71403.  We are thankful for the generosity of the members who have mailed in credited contributions earlier this year

We welcome you to visit our website. In fact, please do not miss it!

It has been a pleasure serving Vernon Parish, Beauregard Parish, eastern Texas and Hodges Gardens with music and song.

“Feel the pulse and keep the beat.”

                 Sincerely,

                 Karen Gordy
