VPCO SUPPORTS RELAY FOR LIFE

Dr. Karen Gordy, founder and associate conductor of Vernon Parish Community Orchestra, played a medley of hymns during the candlelight  memorial service for victims of cancer at the Friday, May 7 Relay for Life  at Leesville Fairgrounds.

Accompanying Dr. Gordy in part of the medley was VPCO violinist Marilyn Barry.

The beautiful luminaria service provides a prayerful moment for reflection in the series of events comprising the annual fund-raiser in honor of cancer survivors and cancer victims.

Creative Fund-Raiser Involves Area Artists

Violins painted by local artists were the attraction in a raffle to raise money for orchestra sheet music and scholarships. Leesville artist Kimberly Wallace, Paula Sche-Baldwin and others gave their talent to further the project, hand-painting the raffle prizes. The violins were presented in the silent auction at the November 14 Strings Concert in Leesville.
